President Ruto Commends Raila Odinga’s AU Commission Bid, Calls for African Unity

President William Ruto has praised Hon. Raila Odinga for running a strong and effective campaign for the position of African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson, highlighting his dedication and commitment throughout the process.

Speaking at State House, Mombasa, President Ruto acknowledged Odinga’s tireless efforts in engaging leaders across the continent, stating that his campaign had unified Kenya, Eastern Africa, and Africa as a whole.

“Hon. Odinga rolled out a formidable and effective campaign for the position of African Union Commission chairperson across the continent. He was present and available for the busy schedules and appointments in nearly all capitals of Africa,” President Ruto said.

He further commended Odinga’s vision for Africa’s transformation, emphasizing that his message resonated with many leaders and citizens across the continent.

The Head of State also extended gratitude to all those who supported the campaign, singling out the solidarity and backing from African nations in Kenya’s bid for the AU top seat.

As Kenya reflects on the just-concluded bid, President Ruto reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening African unity and advancing infrastructure development to boost intra-African trade.

“We remain focused on accelerating the momentum in building a united continent with sufficient infrastructure to further intra-African trade,” he said.

The outcome of the AU Commission chairperson race marks an important chapter in Kenya’s diplomatic engagements, with the country reaffirming its role in shaping the future of the African Union.
