President William Ruto has delivered a major development milestone to Mutha Ward in Kitui South through the allocation of KSh17 million for rural electrification, a move that has been widely celebrated by the local community.
The project, aimed at lighting up villages and public institutions in the remote and previously underserved ward, is expected to transform lives by improving security, boosting small businesses, and enhancing access to digital services, education, and healthcare.
The electrification program is part of the national government’s broader agenda to bridge the development gap in marginalized regions and ensure equitable access to essential infrastructure across the country.
Local leaders, led by Kitui South MP Dr. Rachel Nyamai, have hailed the President for prioritizing Mutha Ward, which has for years lagged behind in access to electricity. Dr. Nyamai, who has been actively pushing for improved infrastructure and energy access in the region, expressed her gratitude for the President’s support.
“This is a historic moment for Mutha Ward. We thank His Excellency President William Ruto for listening to our cries and allocating the much-needed funds. This project will change lives,” said Dr. Nyamai.
The initiative includes the installation of power lines and transformers in key areas, paving the way for residents, schools, health facilities, and trading centers to finally benefit from reliable electricity.
Residents of Mutha Ward are optimistic that the project will open up economic opportunities, attract investment, and improve the overall quality of life.
The electrification project comes at a time when the government has also advertised the upgrade of the Ikutha–Kanziko–Mutha–Mutomo road to bitumen standard, further underscoring President Ruto’s commitment to transforming Kitui South.
