Following a highly successful consultation meeting between President William Ruto and senior government leaders from the Ukambani region, it has been agreed that a broader engagement with Ukambani leadership will precede the President’s anticipated development tour of the region.
In a joint statement released after the meeting, it was confirmed that President Ruto will first host a comprehensive Ukambani leaders’ forum at State House, Nairobi, before embarking on the tour. The larger leaders’ meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
“The President values inclusive dialogue and strategic planning with leaders from all regions. This upcoming meeting with a wider delegation of Ukambani leaders is meant to ensure unity of purpose and a coordinated approach to development in the region,” the statement read in part.
The new dates for the President’s Ukambani development tour will be announced after the State House meeting.
The development tour is expected to focus on key sectors including infrastructure, water provision, agriculture, health, and economic empowerment programs targeting youth and women in Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni counties.
This consultative approach reflects the government’s commitment to engaging local leadership in driving the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) across the country.
