President William Ruto is expected to officially launch the long-awaited construction of the Mbondoni–Migwani road later this month between 20th And 21st june, Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna has announced.
Speaking during a public engagement in Mwingi West, the Wiper Democratic Movement legislator revealed that he had held discussions with President Ruto regarding the project. He confirmed that preparations for the launch are at an advanced stage, with a Chinese contractor already on site.
“I have spoken directly with the President, and he has assured me that the construction will be launched this month. This is a major milestone for our people who have waited for this road for years,” said Nguna.
The MP also emphasized the importance of fair treatment for residents who will be affected by the construction, saying he will advocate for timely and adequate compensation.
“I will not rest until all those affected by the road project are duly compensated. This development must come with justice for our people,” he added.
Nguna has been vocal in pushing for the improvement of road infrastructure in Mwingi West, terming the Mbondoni–Migwani road as a critical link that will open up the region for trade, transport, and economic growth.
Residents have welcomed the announcement with optimism, saying the road will ease travel and boost development in the area. The Chinese contractor is already mobilizing equipment, with early groundwork underway in parts of the road corridor.
The road project is part of the government’s broader plan to improve infrastructure in underdeveloped regions and enhance connectivity across the country.
