Nairobi, Kenya – Permanent Secretary Jonathan Mueke received representatives from PULA, an international entity specializing in agricultural insurance for smallholder farmers, to discuss the implementation of an innovative project aimed at providing insurance to livestock farmers against drought and other climate-related events.
During the meeting, PULA representatives briefed PS Mueke at length about the project’s objectives, strategies, and expected outcomes. This initiative is set to offer crucial financial protection to livestock farmers, helping them mitigate the adverse effects of climate change and ensuring the sustainability of their livelihoods.
PS Mueke expressed the government’s strong support for partnerships that drive agricultural development, emphasizing their importance in transforming livelihoods and boosting the financial well-being of farmers. “As a government, we continue to facilitate partnerships that contribute to agricultural development, transforming livelihoods, and putting money in the pockets of our farmers,” he stated.
This collaboration with PULA is a significant step towards enhancing the resilience of the agricultural sector in Kenya, particularly for smallholder farmers who are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. The new insurance project is expected to play a vital role in safeguarding the livelihoods of livestock farmers and promoting economic stability in rural communities.
The meeting concluded with a commitment from both parties to work closely together to ensure the successful implementation of the project, bringing much-needed relief and security to the agricultural community.
