Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his wife, Pastor Dorcas, caused a standstill in Machakos town on Sunday as they attended a church service before engaging residents in a lively meet-and-greet session.
The former DP, accompanied by local leaders, attended a service at Jesus confirmation center church before stepping out to address hundreds of excited supporters. As he moved through the streets, Gachagua stood through the sunroof of his vehicle, waving to the cheering crowd that had gathered along the roads.
His visit resulted in a temporary shutdown of key streets in the town as security teams struggled to control the surging crowds eager to catch a glimpse of the country’s second-in-command. Businesses came to a near halt, with boda boda riders, traders, and residents abandoning their activities to welcome him.
Addressing the public, Gachagua reaffirmed the government’s commitment to uplifting the people of Ukambani, emphasizing economic empowerment, infrastructure projects, and job creation for the youth.
“We are working tirelessly to ensure that the people of Machakos and the entire Ukambani region benefit from government programs. The Hustler Fund is here to support small businesses, and we are pushing for more road projects to improve connectivity,” Gachagua stated.
Pastor Dorcas also took the opportunity to encourage young people to embrace a drug-free life, highlighting her programs aimed at rehabilitating and empowering the youth.
As the Gachagua convoy made its way out of Machakos, residents continued to cheer, signaling a warm reception in the county known to be a stronghold of opposition politics.
