President William Ruto has revealed that he reached out to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka with an offer to join his administration immediately after the 2022 General Election — even before initiating talks with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking during a public engagement, President Ruto said his move to approach Kalonzo was a demonstration of goodwill and a genuine attempt to unite the country after a divisive electoral contest.
“After the election, before I even called Raila, I called Kalonzo Musyoka and asked him to work with me. I believed it was the right thing to do, given his stature and experience. But he turned me down,” Ruto disclosed.
The Head of State noted that Kalonzo’s refusal was a missed opportunity for national unity and regional development, particularly for the Ukambani region. However, he emphasized that his government remains open to working with leaders across the political divide for the sake of national progress.
Kalonzo, a key figure in the Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya coalition, has remained a loyal ally to Raila Odinga and is widely seen as positioning himself as a top contender in the 2027 presidential race.
The revelation adds a new layer to the political dynamics within the opposition, especially amid ongoing speculation about future realignments ahead of the next general election. Neither Kalonzo nor his party has officially responded to the President’s remarks.
