On February 22, 2025 – Hundreds of residents turned up at Unoa Grounds in Wote on Saturday to benefit from a free medical camp organized in collaboration with the Makueni County Government, M-PESA Foundation, Lions Sight First Eye Hospital, and Zuri Health.
The initiative provided a range of essential healthcare services, including general medical check-ups, dental care, eye screening, and breast cancer screening, among others. Medical professionals were on-site to offer consultations, diagnostic services, and referrals where necessary.
Speaking during the event, a representative from the Makueni County Government emphasized the importance of such initiatives in improving public health and promoting early diagnosis and preventive care. “This medical camp is a step towards ensuring that our residents access quality healthcare without financial constraints,” the official stated.
Local residents expressed their gratitude for the free services, citing financial difficulties as a barrier to seeking medical attention. “I have been struggling with an eye problem, and today I got screened and received treatment for free. This is a great relief,” said one of the beneficiaries.
The partnership between the county government and private healthcare organizations reflects a growing commitment to community health, with organizers calling for more such initiatives in the future.
The medical camp is part of a broader effort to improve access to healthcare in underserved areas, ensuring that early detection and treatment of diseases are prioritized to enhance the overall well-being of residents.
