Kalonzo Musyoka Urged to Run for President in 2027 — and Consider Post-Election Pact with Ruto if He Loses.
By yoana KIMWELE.
Wiper Party leader Hon. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka is being urged by a growing section of Kenyans and political observers to take a bold step and vie for the presidency in the upcoming 2027 General Elections — whether or not he secures full backing from opposition coalition partners.
According to emerging sentiments, Kalonzo, a seasoned statesman and former Vice President, has earned the moral authority and political capital to mount a serious presidential bid, having served in the opposition for over a decade without seeking personal gain from power.
“Kalonzo Musyoka has stayed out of government for far too long. 2027 is the time for him to stand up and be counted. He should run for president even if it means going it alone,” reads a personal political submission seen by The COUNTY DIARY.
However, the submission takes a pragmatic turn, suggesting that if Kalonzo fails to unseat President William Ruto, he should be open to forming a post-election pact with him for the sake of national unity and development.
“If Kalonzo does not beat Ruto in 2027, he should consider joining him. This will be a popular opinion among many Kenyans, especially those who believe in healing, reconciliation, and service delivery over endless political opposition.”
Analysts believe that in the event of an electoral loss, Kalonzo’s entry into a power-sharing agreement with President Ruto would not only stabilize the country politically but also guarantee meaningful development for regions like Ukambani that have historically felt left behind.
The Wiper leader, through such a pact, could secure key government appointments for his loyalists and ensure that his political base finally reaps the rewards of his long-standing loyalty and sacrifice in opposition.
In a country where coalition-building is increasingly becoming the norm, many voters believe it would be wise for Kalonzo to negotiate for a structured role within the next government, potentially as Prime Cabinet Secretary, Foreign Affairs Czar, or even a Deputy President if the law allows. In turn, his allies could occupy strategic ministerial and diplomatic positions.
This move would not be without precedent. Several former opposition figures have successfully transitioned into government post-election, leveraging such opportunities to deliver meaningful development to their people. Kalonzo’s supporters argue that he should not shy away from this reality if the 2027 race does not go in his favor.
Furthermore, joining government after elections could help Kalonzo reposition himself for the future — strengthening his political legacy and giving his party a platform to expand nationally. By playing a constructive role inside government, he could rebuild Wiper as a governing party with influence and experience, ready for future leadership battles.
As 2027 approaches, one thing is clear: Kalonzo Musyoka remains a key figure in Kenya’s political equation — whether as a candidate, kingmaker, or unifier in a post-election realignment. The question now shifts to how boldly and strategically he will position himself in the months ahead.
