Renowned governance advocate Yoana Kimwele has called on Kitui leaders to actively engage the national government to fast-track critical development projects in the region.
Kimwele emphasized that collaboration with the government of the day is essential in unlocking meaningful infrastructure growth and service delivery from national government and county governments.
“When we say work with the government of the day, this is exactly what we mean,” Kimwele wrote on Kitui professional Chat wall (Kpc), an online platform that’s hosts who is who in kitui county. “Development cannot thrive in isolation.”
His remarks come amid confirmation that the national government is set to upgrade the Mutha–Kanziku road to bitumen standard, a project advertised in the dailies and expected to transform transport and trade across Kitui South.
According to Kimwele, several strategic road projects have now been earmarked for tarmacking:
- Mutomo–Mutha Road – to be upgraded by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
- Ikutha–Kanziko–Mutha Road – to be handled by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA).
- Mutha–Kanziku Road – also under KeRRA, set for full bitumen upgrade.
“These roads are not just infrastructure; they are lifelines to economic revival, healthcare access, and education,” Kimwele added.
He also issued a strong rebuke to politicians discouraging engagement with national leadership, branding such rhetoric as “poverty-stricken leadership” that should be avoided “like the plague.”
“If you see someone telling people to keep off from national government engagement, know that is backward politics. We must not entertain leaders who politic with development,” yoana stated.
The statements have sparked conversation across Kitui County, with residents applauding the planned roadworks and urging local leaders to rise above partisan politics for the sake of progress.
