Ikanga-Kyatune Ward, Kenya – A new nutrition education project, spearheaded by the office of the Member of County Assembly (MCA) of Ikanga-Kyatune Ward, in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) NGO and the Kitui County Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, was launched today in Ithumula village. This initiative aims to benefit 130 expectant and breastfeeding mothers with infants aged two years and below.
The project is designed to improve the nutrition and livelihood of the beneficiaries by providing each mother with three rabbits (two female and one male), five pawpaw seedlings, a 5-by-5 feet kitchen garden, and a cornerstone garden.
These resources will empower the mothers by enabling them to produce their own nutritious food and increase their household income. In addition to the physical resources, the mothers will receive training on how to properly care for the rabbits, ensuring that the initiative is sustainable and beneficial in the long term.
The project aims not only to improve the health and nutrition of the mothers and their infants but also to create a model for sustainable agriculture and food security in the community.
