Over 1000 residents of Kyatune Location are set to benefit from the SMEK Phase II water project, which was officially launched today by the Ikanga-Kyatune Ward MCA, Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka, popularly known as Sonko. The project, a collaboration between the Catholic Medical Mission Board (CMMB) and the Kitui County government, aims to address persistent water shortages in the region.
The Phase II project will establish eight water points in key areas including Enzou, Kwa Toma, Yaathi, Emale, and Mesilya. The initiative is expected to alleviate long-standing water scarcity in the affected communities, with completion scheduled in the next few months. Plans for Phase III of the project are already in motion and will be launched shortly after the conclusion of Phase II.
During the sensitization Baraza and the official launch, MCA Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka reaffirmed his commitment to driving development in his ward through continued partnerships with non-governmental organizations (NGOs). “We will continue working closely with NGOs like CMMB to ensure sustainable development and address key challenges such as water scarcity,” Musyoka assured the residents.
The project builds on earlier success stories, following a similar partnership between the MCA and a German NGO last year, which saw the installation of over 10 water kiosks in Yongela, Kyatune Location. This earlier initiative significantly improved water access in the area.
The local community has expressed optimism about the ongoing developments, hoping that the new water points will bring an end to the perennial water shortages that have plagued the area.
