Kalonzo’s Wiper Party Risks Deregistration Over IEBC Interference Allegations

The Wiper Democratic Movement, led by Kalonzo Musyoka, is under fire for allegedly frustrating the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) formation process. Critics claim that the party’s insistence on Koki Muli as a commissioner raises serious concerns about impartiality and potential hidden agendas.

Koki Muli, a lawyer and governance expert, has reportedly applied for an IEBC role multiple times, only to be rejected on four occasions. Her persistence has ignited speculation about her motives and connections, with some questioning whether she represents a broader agenda tied to the Azimio coalition.

Social media users and political analysts alike have questioned her relationship with Kalonzo Musyoka, with some speculating on personal or political ties. The hashtag #Deregisterwiper trended online, with accusations that her repeated applications point to an ulterior motive.

“Why does Kalonzo want Koki Muli at IEBC so badly? Is she an IEBC spy? Kenyans must reject this and demand Wiper’s deregistration if this is the party’s agenda,” one commentator wrote.

The IEBC, responsible for managing Kenya’s elections, has long faced scrutiny over its independence and credibility. Allegations of favoritism or political interference risk undermining public confidence in the electoral body.

Proponents of deregistering Wiper argue that political parties should uphold democratic principles, not manipulate institutions for personal or coalition agendas. Calls have grown for the Registrar of Political Parties to investigate Wiper’s involvement and take appropriate action if violations are found.

Wiper officials have yet to address the allegations, and Koki Muli has not publicly commented on the accusations of bias or hidden motives.

As the IEBC recruitment process continues, the debate underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in Kenya’s electoral system. Kenyans, weary of political interference, demand fair and impartial leadership to safeguard their democracy.
