Kitui County Executive for Agriculture and Livestock, Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, today joined Simlaw Seeds Company officials and hundreds of farmers at the Kitui Agricultural Training Centre (ATC) for a two-day Farmer Field Day aimed at promoting climate-smart agriculture and sustainable food production.
Dr. Mbaya said the partnership between the County Government and Simlaw Seeds Company will strengthen farmer training, improve access to certified seed varieties and accelerate the adoption of modern farming technologies across the county.
The field day, held *under the theme “Growing Together for Sustainable Agriculture,”* the field day brought together more than 500 farmers, agricultural stakeholders and development partners. The event was graced by Simlaw Seeds Company Board Chair Hon. Bernard Wambwa and the company’s General Manager Mr. David Kiplagat who committed to ensuring farmers have access to improved certified seed varieties best suited to the county’s different agro-ecological zones.
Farmers were taken through demonstrations on climate-resilient crop varieties, certified seeds and innovative farming technologies designed to enhance agricultural productivity, improve food security and strengthen farmers’ resilience to the effects of climate change.
Dr. Mbaya welcomed the collaboration, noting that the partnership will enhance continuous capacity building at the Kitui Agricultural Training Centre, equipping farmers with practical knowledge and skills for productive and sustainable farming.
The initiative aligns with Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s development manifesto, which prioritises the transformation of agriculture through the promotion of improved farming practices, increased access to quality agricultural inputs, enhanced food security and improved livelihoods for the people of Kitui.
