Kitui Senator hopeful and County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Agriculture and Livestock, Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, has reaffirmed the county’s commitment to climate-smart agriculture following a partnership with Simlaw Seeds Company aimed at improving food production and farmer resilience.
Speaking during a two-day Farmer Field Day at the Kitui Agricultural Training Centre (ATC) on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, Dr. Mbaya said the collaboration will strengthen farmer training, expand access to certified seed varieties and accelerate the adoption of modern farming technologies across Kitui County.
The event, held under the theme “Growing Together for Sustainable Agriculture,” brought together more than 500 farmers, agricultural stakeholders and development partners to showcase innovative farming practices designed to enhance productivity and address the challenges posed by climate change.
The field day was attended by Simlaw Seeds Company Board Chair Hon. Bernard Wambwa and General Manager Mr. David Kiplagat, who pledged continued support in providing certified seed varieties tailored to Kitui’s diverse agro-ecological zones.
Participants were taken through practical demonstrations on climate-resilient crop varieties, certified seeds and modern agricultural technologies aimed at boosting food security, increasing farm productivity and strengthening resilience against the effects of climate change.
Dr. Mbaya welcomed the partnership, noting that it will enhance continuous capacity building at the Kitui Agricultural Training Centre by equipping farmers with practical knowledge and skills needed for sustainable agricultural production.
He added that the initiative supports Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s development agenda, which prioritises transforming agriculture through improved farming practices, wider access to quality agricultural inputs, enhanced food security and better livelihoods for the people of Kitui.
