The Wield Allegations suggesting that William Mutinda, who serves in the office of the Governor, used his position to influence the nomination of his sister, Linah Mutinda, to the Kitui Municipal Board have been categorically denied as false and malicious.
The County Assembly Committee on Appointments, chaired by Speaker Kevin Kinengo Katisya, questioned nominating bodies about the nominees for the Kitui Municipality Board. Mr. William Mutinda was questioned for alleged nominating his sister, Ms. Lina Kawia Mutinda, without declaring a conflict of interest.
According to information verified by TCD Digital, the nomination process was transparent and followed due procedure:
1. The advertisement for nominations was made in December 2023, inviting eligible candidates to apply.
2. Kitui Youth Link, a registered organization, received an invitation from the Cabinet Secretary (CS) via a letter dated January 29th, 2024, requesting the nomination of three individuals. Kitui Youth Link complied, nominating three candidates and forwarding their names to the CS’s office.
3. Among the nominated individuals was Linah Mutinda, who was selected based on her qualifications, which include a master’s degree. Her name was then forwarded to the assembly for vetting.
4. Linah Mutinda is a youth from within the Kitui municipality, making her a suitable candidate for the position. Her relationship with William Mutinda is irrelevant to the qualifications and selection process.
The public is urged to refrain from spreading unfounded rumors that aim to tarnish the reputation of a young professional. Linah Mutinda’s qualifications speak for themselves, and her appointment should be viewed in the context of merit and adherence to the outlined nomination process. The focus should remain on her capabilities rather than unnecessary speculation about her family connections.
These baseless allegations are seen as attempts to undermine the integrity of the nomination process and the career of a qualified individual. All parties are encouraged to respect the procedures and support the development of qualified professionals in public service roles.
