Kitui, 22 October 2024 — Kitui County Governor, Dr. Julius Malombe (EGH), welcomed the Catholic Medical Mission Board (CMMB) delegation, led by Country Director Dr. James Kisia, at his office on Tuesday. The meeting focused on ongoing and future collaborations between the County Government of Kitui and CMMB, aimed at enhancing the health sector within the county.
Among the achievements highlighted was the construction and equipping of a Newborn Unit at Kitui’s county referral facility and a newly built maternity wing at Nuu Sub County Hospital. These developments, completed earlier this year, are part of a larger effort to improve healthcare infrastructure and services in Kitui.
In addition to infrastructure improvements, the partnership will focus on building capacity for the county’s oncology staff. The collaboration will include several programs designed to enhance service delivery and support clinical research, strengthening the skills and expertise of the county’s healthcare professionals.
Dr. Malombe emphasized the importance of the continued partnership with CMMB, noting that it aligns with the county’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services to its residents. The County Government and CMMB are expected to explore further areas of cooperation to ensure that health outcomes in Kitui continue to improve.
Dr. Kisia expressed CMMB’s satisfaction with the progress made so far and reiterated their commitment to working with the county to address healthcare challenges. He highlighted the positive impact of these initiatives on the well-being of the local community, particularly in maternal and newborn health.
The meeting concluded with both parties pledging to maintain and strengthen the partnership, focusing on sustainable healthcare solutions that will benefit the people of Kitui in the long term.
