DG Wambua Joins Governor Malombe to Commission Transition Roadmap for Sustainable HIV/TB Program 2023-2027

KITUI, May 23, 2024 – Kitui Deputy Governor HE Wambua Kanani Joined Governor Dr Julius Makau Malombe EGH for the Commissioning of the County Transition Roadmap to Sustainable HIV/TB Program 2023-2027.

Governor Dr. Julius Malombe launched the Kitui County Transition Roadmap to a Sustainable HIV/TB Program for 2023-2027. The landmark event was held at the Governor’s office parking lot at the county headquarters and was attended by a high-level delegation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and key implementing partners in the HIV and TB programs.

The newly unveiled roadmap is crucial for ensuring a seamless transition of the HIV/TB program from being federally funded by the U.S. government through the CDC to becoming a county-led, owned, and funded initiative. This move signifies a significant step towards sustainability and local ownership of health programs in Kitui County.

The ceremony was officiated by His Excellency Dr. Julius Malombe Among the notable attendees were Kitui Finance and Revenue Management head Mr. Peter Kilonzo, Environment and Natural Resources Minister Mr. Mwendandu, Roads Minister Eng. Itiko, Chief of Staff Mr. Khalif, and several community health promoters, alongside other government officials.

In his address, Governor Malombe highlighted the importance of the roadmap in bolstering the county’s health infrastructure and ensuring the continuity of essential HIV and TB services. He expressed gratitude to the CDC and other partners for their support and collaboration over the years.

“The transition to a county-led program marks a new era of self-reliance and sustainable healthcare for Kitui. We are committed to maintaining and improving the services provided to our community and ensuring that no one is left behind in the fight against HIV and TB,” said Governor Malombe.

The roadmap outlines strategic goals and initiatives designed to enhance the county’s capacity to manage and fund its HIV and TB programs independently. This initiative is expected to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve health outcomes for the residents of Kitui County.

The event concluded with a reaffirmation of the county’s commitment to health and development, promising a brighter and healthier future for its citizens.
