Governor Malombe Hails Devolution During Jamhuri Day Celebrations at Musila Gardens, Mwingi

On 12th December 2024, Mwingi, – Kitui County Governor, Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH, through his deputy, H.E. Wambua Kanani, lauded the transformative impact of devolution during the 61st Jamhuri Day celebrations held at Musila Gardens, Mwingi Town. Addressing a packed audience, Dr. Malombe emphasized the milestones achieved in Kitui County under his leadership, attributing these successes to devolution and fruitful collaboration with the national government.

Progress in Development Projects

Highlighting key achievements, Dr. Malombe detailed landmark projects that have significantly improved lives across Kitui. These include:

Water Sector Advancements: Projects like the Mwingi-Kiambere Water Project, Kitumui Dam, Umaa Dam, and the Kindaruma-Kiomo-Mwingi-Migwani Pipeline have enhanced water access for thousands.

Security Enhancements: Construction of eight police stations along Kitui’s eastern borders and the training of 254 National Police Reservists equipped with paramilitary skills to address security challenges.

KENYA MARKS 61 JAMUHURI DAY CELEBRATIONS, Kitui County Deputy Governor HE Wambua Kanani and Kitui County Commissioner Kipchumba Ruto match out Jamuhuri day celebrations pared consisting of Kenya Police, Administration Police, Kenya Prisons Service, Kenya Forest Service, Kitui County Government Enforcement Unit and Mumoni AIC Brass Band led by C.I. Boniface Mutie, OCS Mwingi Police Station during 61st Jamuhuri day celebrations in Mwingi town.

Dr. Malombe’s administration also takes pride in restoring healthcare infrastructure and services, modernizing facilities with the latest equipment, and ensuring the availability of drugs in hospitals—a stark contrast to the neglected state during previous administrations.

The Governor highlighted strides in agriculture, youth, and women empowerment, alongside transitioning 1,688 ECDE teachers to permanent and pensionable terms, boosting education quality. The inauguration of municipal boards for urban areas was also lauded as a key step towards improving urban management.

Tourism received a boost following the signing of an MoU with the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to conserve and manage game reserves, promising to position Kitui as a premier tourist destination.

Call for Unity Among Leaders

In a stern warning, Deputy Governor Kanani urged leaders to avoid political distractions and instead focus on serving the electorate. “Let every elected leader respect each other and do their job. Side shows will compromise service delivery and hurt our people,” he cautioned.

Governor Malombe concluded with a message of hope, urging unity and trust among all stakeholders for a prosperous Kitui County.
