The County Government of Kitui has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the lives of its residents through transformative development projects under Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s ambitious The Kitui Promise agenda.
Speaking during a development tour in Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, Kitui South Sub-County, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Roads, Public Works, and Transport, Eng. Reuben Itiko, outlined the administration’s structured plans to tackle pressing challenges in local communities.
Addressing enthusiastic residents at Manzee Dam in Makele/Kiangwa and Kathungu villages, Eng. Itiko emphasized the importance of improving road networks across the county. He highlighted ongoing grading and opening of roads spanning 60 kilometers per ward across all 40 wards in Kitui County.
“The rehabilitation of the road from Kithuki to Manzee Dam in Kathungu Village and Musikio Road from Manzee to Katenzuke in Kiangwa Village is a priority. These projects will enhance transportation and connectivity, driving economic growth in the region,” he said.
Eng. Itiko also led an inspection of the Kithuki-Yongela road alongside engineers to assess the feasibility of constructing a drift at Ngunga River. This initiative aims to ease the transportation of goods and services from Ikanga town to Yongela Centre through Kithuki Market.
Other county officials, including Chief Officers Gladys Kivoto (Agriculture and Fisheries) and Nathan Vungo (Water), were present during the visit. CO Vungo assured residents that the desilting of Manzee Dam is underway to ensure sustainable water provision, while CO Kivoto underscored the benefits of rehabilitating the sand dam to support irrigated farming and improve access to water for domestic use.
Area MCA Cyrus Musyoka (Sonko), Governor’s Political Advisor Mwangu Ivuti, and technical officers from the departments of Roads, Water, and Agriculture joined the delegation. Local administrators, including assistant chiefs and village administrators, were also in attendance.
The residents of Ikanga/Kyatune Ward expressed optimism about the initiatives, lauding the county government for prioritizing infrastructure and water development, which are pivotal for improving their livelihoods.
The projects, a part of The Kitui Promise, aim to ensure equitable development across the county and address critical gaps in infrastructure and service delivery.
