In a week-long consultative meeting held in Mombasa County, Kitui County leaders reaffirmed their commitment to work together in advancing the county’s development agenda.
The meeting, led by Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe and Speaker of the County Assembly Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya, brought together Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) and the County Executive to review the progress of various projects and programs.
Among the notable attendees was MCA Mark Ndingo, known for his strong working relationship with Governor Malombe. The theme of the meeting, “Financing County Development in the Face of Shrinking Fiscal Space,” emphasized the challenges counties face in delivering services with limited resources.
Keynote speakers included former Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana, health expert Dr. Zachary Kariuki, and finance professionals from various counties and institutions. Discussions covered critical areas such as leadership, health, infrastructure, water management, youth empowerment, and resource mobilization.
By the end of the meeting, both the Assembly and the Executive issued a joint communique outlining resolutions for the county’s future. These included plans to improve health services by constructing facilities in underserved areas, boosting road works, and expanding water infrastructure. Additionally, the county plans to hold a youth engagement forum in November to address the needs of its younger population.
Governor Malombe expressed confidence in the county’s ability to achieve its goals, highlighting the importance of maintaining peace and security in collaboration with national agencies and neighboring counties.
The meeting underscored a unified approach to governance, with both arms of government pledging to uphold transparency, professionalism, and accountability in delivering services to Kitui residents.
