Voo/Kyamatu Ward MCA, Hon. Zak Syengo, marked Jamhuri Day in style by cutting a cake in honor of ActionAid Kenya’s impactful work and celebrating his birthday. This special occasion also coincided with the announcement of his election to the Board of Directors of ActionAid International Kenya.
During elections held on November 1, 2024, in Nairobi, Hon. Syengo was elected to serve on the board of the renowned non-governmental organization. He has been a member of ActionAid’s General Assembly since 2018, actively contributing to its mission of fostering sustainable development and social justice.
ActionAid International has been a pillar of support for marginalized communities for over five decades, focusing on empowering women and youth in leadership, protecting democratic spaces, advocating for land rights, addressing climate change, and fighting poverty. The organization has been instrumental in promoting Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programs, as well as advancing education.
In a time of shrinking democratic space, ActionAid has stood firm against discrimination, excessive taxation, and violations of freedom of expression. Hon. Syengo’s election is a testament to his dedication to these causes and his impactful work in Kenyan communities.
With an impressive academic and professional background, Hon. Syengo holds a master’s degree from Strathmore Business School, a Pan-African MBA from IESE Business School in Spain, a diploma from Wageningen University, and a certificate from MICT in Haifa, Israel. He is also a Ph.D. finalist at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
Residents of Kitui County and beyond have lauded Hon. Syengo for his exemplary leadership and tireless efforts to improve the lives of his constituents. His new role with ActionAid is expected to amplify his contributions to national and international development.
The TCD team congratulates Hon. Syengo on his election and wishes him success as he embarks on this new chapter of service.
