On November 13, 2024 – The Kitui County Assembly approved Supplementary Budget I, allocating Ksh 14,840,016,748 to address both recurrent and development expenditures for the 2024/2025 financial year.
The budget, aimed at meeting the pressing needs of Kitui residents, was passed after a motion to adopt the County Budget and Appropriations Committee’s report was moved by Hon. Jacqueline Kalenga, vice chairperson of the committee, and seconded by Hon. Bonface Mukwate, representing Kanyangi.
During the motion, Hon. Kalenga emphasized that the Budget Committee ensured that the budget meets the statutory development allocation of at least 30%, as stipulated by Section 107(2)(b) of the Public Finance Management Act, 2012. This threshold ensures that significant resources are devoted to development initiatives to benefit Kitui residents.
Members of the County Assembly commended the Budget and Appropriations Committee for their dedication in drafting a balanced budget and urged the County Executive to implement it fully. The approved budget will support a range of developmental and operational initiatives across Kitui County.
Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya, who chaired the afternoon session, lauded the assembly members for their active involvement, dedication, and commitment to the approval process. He acknowledged their efforts to represent the interests of the people of Kitui and encouraged continued collaboration for the county’s prosperity.
This budget marks a significant step forward in addressing both immediate and long-term needs, promoting growth and development within Kitui County.
