In a parliamentary hearing, MP Mwengi Mutuse alleged that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua pressured Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) officials into awarding a tender for mosquito nets to Crystal Kenya Limited.
However, under cross-examination by Advocate Elisha Ongoya, Mutuse admitted that Crystal Kenya Limited did not participate as a bidder in the tender process. Instead, Mutuse clarified that Crystal Kenya Limited represents Shobika, the company currently under investigation for the controversial tender.
This is how it went down
Advocate Elisha Ongoya: “The allegation says Rigathi Gachagua bullied KEMSA officials into awarding a tender for the supply of mosquito nets to Crystal Kenya Limited. Was Crystal Kenya Limited awarded that tender?”
MP Mwengi Mutuse: “They were not bidders.”
Advocate Elisha Ongoya: “Were they awarded the tender as your ground alleges?”
MP Mwengi Mutuse: “No, they were not.”
Advocate Elisha Ongoya: “So why are you alleging that they were bullied into being awarded the tender?”
MP Mwengi Mutuse: “Because they are the local representatives of Shobika, the company is under investigation for this tender.”
