Mwingi Central, Calls are growing louder for John Makau Kimwele, the Chief Officer for Finance, Revenue Management, and Accounting, to contest the Mwingi Central parliamentary seat in the 2027 elections. Born in the heart of the Mui Basin and renowned for his integrity, leadership skills, and financial expertise, Makau has become a beacon of hope for residents disillusioned by the current leadership.

Residents have expressed frustration with the current MP, Gideon Mulyungi, whom they accuse of divisive leadership and failing to unite the constituency. Mulyungi’s style of leadership, described as “Pharaoh-like,” has reportedly alienated him from other leaders in Kitui County, leaving him politically isolated.

Makau, a close ally of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, is said to be gaining significant traction among the electorate. His reputation as a wise, approachable, and down-to-earth leader is inspiring confidence in his ability to transform the constituency. Many believe he has the financial acumen and governance experience to steer Mwingi Central toward development and unity.

“John Makau has numbers at his fingertips and understands the needs of the people. His leadership style is inclusive, and that’s exactly what we need,” said one resident during a public forum in Mui Basin.

MP Mulyungi, who has been in office for two terms, is facing criticism for his confrontational approach, allegedly clashing with various Kitui leaders and choosing to work in isolation. This has left his political future uncertain, with many predicting that a Makau candidacy would end his grip on the constituency.
