Wiper Party leader and opposition stalwart Kalonzo Musyoka has issued a stern call to the ODM party, urging them to clarify whether they are aligned with the government or remain firmly in the opposition.
Speaking during a public rally in Karurumo, Meru County, Kalonzo emphasized the need for a clear and unified opposition stance, especially in light of ongoing national governance concerns.
“Watu wa Karurumo wamechangamka! Uwongo wa Kasongo umefika mwisho!” Kalonzo declared to an energized crowd. “Before March next year, if the IEBC has not been reconstituted, I will personally lead maandamano (protests).”
The former Vice President also criticized ODM’s perceived ambiguity, stating that Kenyans deserve to know the party’s position before the New Year. “We also want ODM to tell us before 2025: Are you in the opposition or in government? You have to have a clear stand,” he said.
Kalonzo’s remarks come amid growing concerns over the delay in reconstituting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), a key demand of the opposition. His comments are likely to intensify debates within the Azimio coalition, of which ODM is a major partner, as well as spark broader national conversations on the role of opposition parties in Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
The rally in Meru drew significant attendance, underscoring Kalonzo’s influence in regions beyond his Ukambani stronghold. Observers note that his recent remarks signal a more assertive stance, as he positions himself as a leading figure in the opposition bloc.
ODM is yet to respond to Kalonzo’s remarks.
