Kitui South Member of Parliament Dr Hon. Rachael Kaki Nyamai has urged Kamba leaders to align themselves with the government to foster development in the region. Speaking during the Koma Forum organized by Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua in Machakos, the Jubilee legislator emphasized the need for elected leaders in the Ukambani region to abandon opposition politics and work collaboratively with President William Ruto’s administration.
Hon. Kaki stressed that the focus should be on development and not political affiliations, urging leaders to take advantage of the government’s goodwill to bring progress to Ukambani. “We must refuse to be branded as opposition leaders. Even if a few decide to remain in opposition, the majority should focus on working with the government to ensure development reaches our people,” she said.
Citing examples from regions such as Mombasa, North Eastern, Nyanza, and Western Kenya, Hon. Kaki noted how their leaders had chosen to cooperate with the government, which has resulted in significant progress for their communities. She encouraged Kamba leaders to emulate this approach, adding that collaboration would enhance infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other vital sectors in Ukambani.
The forum brought together various leaders and stakeholders from the region to deliberate on strategies to accelerate development. Hon. Kaki’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions on the role of opposition politics in a democratic setup and its impact on regional development.
The legislator’s call underscores the growing debate on whether regional leaders should prioritize political loyalty or the pragmatic needs of their constituents.
