More than 35 groups in Kitui Central constituency have benefited from KSh 3.4 million in Uwezo Fund disbursements aimed at supporting youth, women, and persons living with disabilities (PWDs). The funds were issued today by Kitui County MP Hon. Dr. Irene Kasalu, alongside the team of Hon. Dr. Makali, at the CDF offices in Township Ward.
The Uwezo Fund, which is a revolving fund provided without interest, has been instrumental in empowering small businesses across the country. During the event, MP Kasalu emphasized the importance of supporting local entrepreneurs through accessible financial support and training to stimulate economic growth.
“We are committed to working together with other MPs from Kitui County to address the economic and social challenges our people face, particularly in supporting small businesses that are the backbone of our community,” said Kasalu.
In addition to focusing on economic empowerment, Hon. Kasalu addressed the issue of insecurity along the Kitui-Tana River border, highlighting ongoing collaboration with other leaders to improve security in the region. She commended the Ministry of Interior for taking swift action, including the arrest of the Governor of Tana River on incitement charges.
The MP condemned the recent vandalism of a police station at Kona Kaliti, which had been funded by the Kitui County government, calling the act unfortunate for the residents of Tana River.
The Uwezo Fund initiative continues to provide hope to registered and trained groups in Kitui Central, offering them the resources they need to uplift their communities and enhance their livelihoods.
