Kitui County Executive and Assembly Pledge Harmonious Cooperation for Development

The Kitui County Executive and Assembly have reaffirmed their commitment to working together to advance the county’s development agenda. In a joint communiqué delivered , Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe and Speaker Kinengo Katisya expressed their mutual commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the county’s residents by aligning efforts between the two arms of government.

Governor Malombe, addressing the media alongside members of both the executive and assembly, emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration to drive service delivery in the county. “During this consultative workshop, our theme was: ‘Financing County Development in the Face of Shrinking Fiscal Space,’” he said, stressing the need for innovation and strategic planning in the current economic climate.

One of the key outcomes of the workshop was the agreement to increase resources allocated to healthcare, particularly to ensure the availability of medical supplies in health facilities across the county. “The County Government is committed to constructing health facilities in the 34 village units which currently have no operational health facilities,” Governor Malombe noted.

In addition to healthcare, the joint workshop agreed on several resolutions aimed at addressing pressing county issues. These include:

Austerity measures: The county will implement cost-saving strategies by prioritizing essential projects and postponing non-core initiatives.

Infrastructure development: Increased funding will be directed to the health, sanitation, roads, and water sectors. Kitui faces significant challenges in accessing clean water, and efforts will be made to ensure solutions are prioritized.

Roadworks improvements: A hybrid system combining the use of National Youth Service (NYS) machinery and county-owned equipment will be adopted to improve the road network.
