Youth Empowerment Takes Center Stage at Kitui County Youth Forum Football Tournament
Mutomo, Kitui County – The Kitui County Youth Forum Football Tournament, held on Sunday, October 27th, at Mutomo Stadium, brought together football enthusiasts and local leaders in a spirited showcase of sportsmanship and youth empowerment. This landmark event, hosted by Hon. Silvester Munya, County National Youth Forum Chairman, was the largest tournament witnessed in Kitui South in recent times.
The tournament saw a fierce competition between teams from Mutha Ward and Mutomo/Kibwea Ward. It also garnered support from prominent local figures, including the President of the Youth Forum, Miss Jeniffer Warid, who urged young people to steer clear of drug abuse and focus on creativity and self-employment opportunities as alternatives to traditional jobs.
Dignitaries such as the Mutomo Assistant County Commissioner, Mutomo MCA Hon. David Masaku, and Mr. Musango, representing Kitui South MP Dr. Rachael Nyamai, were in attendance. To show their support, they donated essential supplies, including boxes of water, to the participating teams.
Kitui Central MP Dr. Makali Mulu, through a representative, provided uniforms for the four competing teams, and the Youth Chair, Hon. Silvester Munya, contributed footballs and other essentials.
Additionally, Kitui County Workers Union Secretary, Eng. Faith, graced the tournament to encourage the youth in their endeavors. The event, which carried the theme “Kitui Youth Empowerment Forum Tournament,” highlighted the power of sports as a tool for youth mobilization and community unity.
In the thrilling matches, Mutomo Young Stars FC triumphed in the second semi-final against Makose FC with a score of 4-3. In the finals, FC Tigers edged out Mutomo Young Stars FC with a 2-1 victory. The champions, FC Tigers, received a cash prize of Ksh 10,000, uniforms, and footballs, while the runners-up, Mutomo Young Stars FC, were awarded Ksh 5,000, uniforms, and footballs.
The Kitui County Youth Forum Football Tournament was a memorable day for Kitui South, reinforcing a vision for a future where young people are empowered to become proactive, resilient, and positive contributors to society.
