Kitui Executive for Agriculture and Livestock, Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, while flagging-off farm tractors at the Agricultural Mechanization Services (AMS) in Kitui Town, reiterated the critical role the tractors play in ensuring early farm preparations.
The subsidized tractor ploughing program will deliberately target farmer groups. “Farmers should join organized farmers groups to maximize the benefits,” Dr. Mbaya added.
The CECM further advised farmers to plant early and specifically the drought-tolerant seeds so as to mitigate the risks posed by unpredictable rainfall.
He assured farmers of the county Government’s unwavering commitment to farmers welfare, noting that Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s administration is focused on improving agricultural production as a means of uplifting the livelihoods of Kitui residents.
To benefit from the subsidized service, farmers will be required to pay directly to County Government account Sh.1000 per acre for dry rate and cover fuel costs.
The flagging-off event was attended by the Chief Officer for Agriculture and Fisheries Gladys Kivoto, AMS Manager Dorcus Ileve, senior staff and plant operators from the ministry.
Ends.
