Kitui Governor Pledges Investor-Friendly Environment

On June 20th, 2024 — Dr. Julius Malombe, Governor of Kitui County reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering an inviting business climate for investors. During the local investor’s sensitization conference held in Kitui town.

Governor Malombe outlined several strategic measures his government is implementing to attract local investments. Governor Malombe emphasized the importance of predictable taxation, infrastructure improvements, enhanced street and market lighting, and the enactment of business-friendly policies. These initiatives, he stated, are crucial for stimulating local economic growth.

A key highlight of his address was the announcement of plans to develop a county aggregation and industrial park. This project aligns with the industrialization objectives set forth in Kenya Vision 2030’s fourth medium-term plan, aimed at boosting the county’s industrial capacity.

The Governor made it clear that the county government will not use public funds to compete with private investors. Instead, the focus will be on creating a fair and competitive business environment where private enterprises can flourish without the threat of government competition.

“I would like to emphasize the fact that government is not an investor. We have seen billions of public funds going to waste when the government invests. Public funds are meant to support public goods like roads, water, electricity, and safe borders among others,” he stated.

The conference, which aims to inform local investors about the available investment opportunities in Kitui, is a precursor to the Kitui County International Investors Conference scheduled for later this year.
