Kitui County, Kenya – Vonza Ward MCA Hon. Mark Ndingo has issued a heartfelt plea to parents across Kitui County, urging them to ensure the safety of their children during the ongoing rainy season.
Speaking earlier today, Hon. Ndingo emphasized the need for vigilance, especially as children enjoy the long school vacation. He warned against the dangers posed by swollen rivers and advised parents to keep their children away from playing along riverbanks.
“Let’s take care of our children the way teachers do while the children are in school,” Hon. Ndingo said. “I urge parents to be extra vigilant at home during this long vacation. Avoid crossing swollen rivers during the rainy season and ensure that our children are safe from these dangers.”
With heavy rains sweeping across the region, swollen rivers and flash floods pose a significant risk, particularly to unsupervised children. Hon. Ndingo’s call comes as part of a broader effort to raise awareness about flood safety and minimize accidents during the holiday period.
He further highlighted the shared
responsibility between schools and parents in ensuring the well-being of children throughout the year.
The rainy season has historically been a period of increased accidents involving children, prompting local leaders and community organizations to advocate for safety measures. Parents are encouraged to educate their children about flood dangers and remain vigilant during the vacation.
Authorities in Kitui County continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on weather patterns, urging all residents to exercise caution during this period.
