In a Monumental shift within the County Assembly, Hon. Harrison Maluki Mawia (Migwani) and Hon. Bonface Mukwate Katula (Kanyangi) has assumed the roles of Leader of the Majority Party and Majority Party Whip, respectively. The two leaders succeed Hon. Munyoki Mwinzi (Kyuso) and Hon. Daniel Kimanzi Ngoima (Township), who has been relieved of their duties.
The announcement was made during the morning session by the County Assembly Speaker, Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya. Citing Standing Order Nos. 15 (8), (9), and (10), Speaker Kinengo informed the House that the changes were formalized through a letter from the Majority Party Whip, which was accompanied by minutes and resolutions from a party meeting held on September 3, 2024.
Speaker Kinengo confirmed that Hon. Munyoki Mwinzi was removed from his position as Leader of the Majority Party, and Hon. Harrison Maluki Mawia was appointed as his replacement. Similarly, Hon. Daniel Kimanzi Ngoima was replaced by Hon. Bonface Mukwate Katula as the Majority Party Whip.
In his address, Speaker Kinengo congratulated the new leaders and expressed his support for them. “I extend my best wishes for success in their new roles and assure them of my full support as they transition into their new responsibilities.
My office shall remain open for any consultations or assistance they may require,” he stated.The Speaker also called on all members of the County Assembly to cooperate fully with the new leadership as they undertake their duties. Additionally, he expressed his gratitude to the outgoing leaders, Hon. Munyoki Mwinzi and Hon. Daniel Kimanzi Ngoima, for their service to the House and wished them well in their future endeavours.
This change marks a new chapter for the Majority Party as Hon. Mawia and Hon. Katula begin their leadership roles amidst a backdrop of anticipation and expectations from their colleagues and constituents alike.
