Kitui South Member of Parliament, Hon. Rachel Nyamai, has called on President William Ruto to intervene and protect her constituents from criminal gangs operating within the Kitui South Game Reserve.
Speaking during a security meeting in Mutha Town, Nyamai expressed concerns that the reserve has become a breeding ground for criminal activity.
Rachael visited mutha ward together with the women rep on the invitation of Area MCA hon Mwamisi.
The meeting was held to address rising tensions over the Kitui-Tana River border, with Nyamai accusing several Tana River MPs of inciting residents to invade the game reserve. She emphasized that national security should not be compromised for the sake of a few individuals and urged the president to take swift action.
Nyamai also drew parallels to past attacks, including the tragic Garissa University massacre, suggesting that the criminals involved are linked to those responsible for that attack. The MP stressed the need for urgent intervention to prevent further violence and ensure peace in the region.
In recent developments, authorities have already arrested the governor of Tana River and an MP from the area on incitement charges. Their arrests are seen as a significant step in addressing the escalating tensions.
Kitui Woman Representative, Hon. Irene Kasalu, who was also present at the meeting, supported Nyamai’s calls for action. Kasalu urged for a complete overhaul of security personnel in Mutha and across the entire Kitui South region, citing their failure to prevent the worsening situation.
The leaders’ plea comes at a time of growing concern over security in the region, with hopes that the national government will step in to restore peace and order.
