On October 25, 2024– Outstanding Kitui South Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Rachael Kaki Nyamai, CBS, welcomed officials from the Ministry of Lands and Housing in a visit to the region, marking a significant step towards development in the constituency.
The delegation included Architect Brian Mureithi and Director of Housing Projects for Kitui County, Mr. Kelvin Kitonga. They were joined by local leaders, including Mutomo Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Peter Mutu, Ikutha Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Vincent Lomachar, and Mutomo OCPD Mr. Kafulo.
The key agenda of the meeting was to outline the affordable housing project under the Kenya Kwanza government, which is slated for construction on government land in Mutomo. This development promises to address the housing shortage in the area while providing affordable homes to residents.
Additionally, hostels will be constructed at the Ikutha Technical and Vocational Training College to support student accommodation in Ikutha Sub-county. To further ease student attachments and practical training, another set of hostels will be built in Ikutha town, benefiting students from the KMTC Mutomo campus who intern at Ikutha Level IV Hospital.
In a boost to local commerce, each sub-county will also receive Ksh 50 million for the construction of new markets, enhancing trade opportunities and local economies.
This comprehensive development initiative reflects the government’s commitment to uplifting rural areas and supporting local education, healthcare, and trade facilities in Kitui South.
