In a passionate statement in kitui Professional Chat, an online forum where who is who in kitui county In a Member, Kitui youth leader Mr. Katunda King’ang’i has called for a significant overhaul of the education funding system in Kenya.
Speaking on behalf of many concerned citizens, King’ang’i proposed the abolition of bursaries provided through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), the offices of Governors, the Ministry of Education, and the Office of the President.
Instead, he suggests that these funds should be directly allocated to schools to ensure that no child is left out of the education system due to a lack of school fees.
“All Kenyans want is simply free education from primary to university,” King’ang’i stated. He criticized the current bursary system, claiming that it has been widely misused, leading to an unequal distribution of resources and leaving many deserving students without the support they need.
King’ang’i’s proposal includes using Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to conduct oversight to ensure that the funds are used appropriately and effectively.
By eliminating bursaries and directing funds straight to educational institutions, the youth leader believes that every child will have the opportunity to access education, regardless of their economic background.
His comments have sparked a debate about the best way to fund education in Kenya, with many agreeing that the current system needs reform. As the conversation continues, it remains to be seen whether the government will take steps toward the changes proposed by Mr. King’ang’I
