The Azimio Coalition sister parties have announced their intention to stage a demonstration at the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) until the name of Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli, the leader of the National Liberal Party (NLP), is tabled at the Clerk of the National Assembly.
Addressing the press today, the Azimio outfit accused Junet Mohamed and the Wiper party of attempting to undermine the democratic process. They vowed to continue their protest at the ORPP to ensure that the law is followed.
In a related development, Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli declared a hunger strike, starting today, until his victory in the IEBC Selection Panel is reinstated. Dr. Muli accused the Azimio Coalition, led by Junet Mohamed and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, of interfering with what he described as a legal, transparent, and open voting process. He challenged Dr. Koki Muli to prove his win.
Dr. Muli has called on President William Ruto to intervene and ensure that the rule of law is upheld in this matter.
The dispute escalated on Monday when the Azimio La Umoja, One Kenya Coalition, wrote to the Speaker of the National Assembly, expressing their intention to replace Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli with Dr. Koki Muli. They cited a lack of necessary qualifications and credentials on the part of Dr. Muli to represent the coalition in the IEBC panel, arguing that the National Liberal Party is not a parliamentary party within the coalition.
