Machakos, 6th August 2024 – The Machakos County Assembly, under the stewardship of Speaker Hon. Anne Kiusya, convened today to address a pressing petition submitted by the Sabaki Residents Association.
The petition centers on a contentious land dispute over parcel LR. 26699/27 in Sabaki, Athiriver Ward, Mavoko Sub County.During the plenary session, Hon. Members engaged in thorough deliberations on the requests made by the Sabaki Residents.
The key concerns highlighted include the need for swift action to prevent the potential loss of public land, as well as calls for an investigation to ensure that the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) does not interfere with public utility land without proper consultation.
The residents are urging the Assembly to support them in safeguarding and reclaiming public utility plots, ensuring they are utilized for their intended purposes. They also emphasize the importance of transparency and accountability in the administration of public land by the County Executive.
Furthermore, the petition requests collaboration between the Assembly and the Sabaki Residents Association to protect all public utility land within the estate. An audit of development plans across the County is also proposed to ensure legality and alignment with community goals.
Speaker Kiusya has referred the petition to the Lands and Energy Committee, with an expectation of a comprehensive report within sixty days, as stipulated by Standing Order No. 201(2). The Assembly has adjourned until Tuesday, 13th August 2024, when further discussions will resume.
