Makueni County has taken a significant step towards enhancing financial inclusion and transparency by partnering with Safaricom to digitize the Tetheka Fund, an empowerment initiative aimed at providing affordable credit.
On Tuesday, key county officials, including the Executive Committee Member for Gender, Eng. Peter Mumo, and ICT Executive Elizabeth Muli, led a multi-sectoral team in a review meeting to evaluate the progress of this digital transformation.
The new system is set to automate the entire loan process—from application and processing to lending and repayment. This move is expected to increase efficiency, transparency, and accountability, thereby simplifying access to credit for women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
Eng. Peter Mumo expressed confidence in the system’s ability to enhance financial empowerment for vulnerable groups in the county. “The digital platform is poised to revolutionize access to affordable credit, significantly boosting financial empowerment for our community’s underserved populations,” he remarked.
The review meeting in Nairobi included representatives from the Makueni County Assembly Committee on Gender and the World Food Programme, a crucial development partner in social empowerment. This collaboration represents a pivotal advancement in utilizing technology to strengthen empowerment initiatives in Makueni County.
