In 2021, Dr. Irene Kasalu, the Kitui County Women Representative, launched a groundbreaking scholarship initiative that has since transformed the lives of more than 84 underprivileged students across the county.
The program offers fully funded scholarships, enabling bright but needy students to pursue their education without financial hindrance.
The impact of this initiative is evident in the success stories it has nurtured. Abdullah Said from Township Ward, a beneficiary who attended Moi High School Mbiruri under the scholarship, achieved a stellar mean grade of A in the KCSE examinations.
Similarly, Katua Mary Timina of kimangao secondary school scored B Plus, Kilonzo Peter from Migwani Secondary School also secured a commendable B plain, setting the stage for a bright future.
Dr. Kasalu’s vision goes beyond secondary education. She is committed to supporting these students through their academic journeys, including higher education. “This is more than just a scholarship; it’s an investment in the future of Kitui County. Every child deserves a chance to excel,” she told the press.
The initiative has been praised for its holistic approach, prioritizing fully funded scholarships over partial bursaries to ensure sustainable support for students. It has inspired hope among many families and underscored the importance of education in breaking the cycle of poverty, the TCD digital reports.
As the program continues to flourish, Kitui County is poised to witness more remarkable achievements from the beneficiaries of Dr. Kasalu’s visionary leadership as KCSE results continue to trickle.
