High-ranking Member of Parliament for Kitui South, Dr. Rachael Nyamai, accompanied the National Departmental Committee on Lands in a crucial oversight visit to Coastal land registries.
The visit, chaired by North Mugirango MP Hon. Joash Nyamoko, focused on assessing the progress of renovation and upgrade works at the Kilifi Land Registry. Officials from the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning were also in attendance.As part of the visit, the team inspected ongoing improvements aimed at enhancing service delivery at the registry. The committee emphasized the importance of modernizing land administration to address persistent challenges such as land disputes and inefficiencies in document processing.
Later, the delegation proceeded to a contentious 417-acre parcel of land in the region, whose ownership remains disputed. The fact-finding mission sought to gather insights and provide recommendations to resolve the dispute.
Dr. Nyamai highlighted the committee’s commitment to ensuring fairness and transparency in land matters, noting that addressing such disputes is key to fostering sustainable development and peaceful coexistence in the coastal region.
The oversight visit aligns with the committee’s mandate of ensuring proper implementation of the budget and projects under the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning. The findings from the visit will inform future parliamentary deliberations and policy decisions.///
