Kitui South Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Rachael Kaki Nyamai CBS, has urged the government to expedite the establishment of a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) wing in Kanziko/simisi, This move, she emphasized, is critical to addressing the increasing cases of human-wildlife conflict along the Kitui South Game Reserve.
Speaking during a burial in Kitui for a victim killed by marauding elephants, Dr. Nyamai expressed her concern over the escalating dangers posed by wildlife in the region. “The residents of Kitui South have suffered greatly due to wildlife intrusion. Establishing a KWS unit in Kanziko is not just urgent but necessary to protect lives and livelihoods,” she stated.
In addition to her advocacy for better wildlife management, Dr. Nyamai demonstrated her commitment to community welfare by facilitating the Social Health Authority (SHA) registration of over 100 boda boda riders. Each registration, valued at KSh 450 per rider, aims to improve access to healthcare services for this critical group.
Dr. Nyamai’s busy day also included attending three separate funerals in Kanziko Simisi Ward, where she condoled with bereaved families and reiterated her dedication to addressing pressing community challenges.
The MP’s call for action reflects her broader commitment to improving security and welfare in Kitui South, a region deeply affected by the interplay of human settlement and wildlife activities. Residents expressed hope that the government would heed her plea to mitigate the ongoing human-wildlife conflict.
