Popular Musyi FM presenter Onesmus Mwengei, widely known as Sir Mwenge, has criticized bloggers in Ukambani for what he describes as their exploitative behavior during a recent funeral. Mwenge expressed his disappointment over bloggers prioritizing views and subscribers over respecting the grieving family.
Mwenge remarked, “Bloggers are very happy when someone who was famous dies. In short, that person and the one who makes caskets have no difference. They are very happy because every day they will air about the plans of the funeral as if they know the dead.”
He further noted that many bloggers used the death of Mercy Mawia, a notable figure in the community, to increase their audience engagement rather than join in mourning her passing. In response to this behavior, Mwenge decided to limit his own posts about Mercy’s demise, emphasizing his desire not to exploit the situation for personal gain.
“I said I would not post about Mercy Mawia apart from the one I posted after learning of her death. I do not want to take advantage because it’s my friend, a colleague who had died, and then it looks like I want to add more subscribers,” Mwenge explained.
In addition to criticizing bloggers, the presenter also called out Kamba Benga artists for their absence at Mercy’s funeral.
