Hon. Charles Mwalimu Mathuva, a distinguished High Court advocate and ally of President William Ruto, is emerging as a strong contender for the Mwingi North parliamentary seat in the 2027 general election. Mathuva, who enjoys significant support within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, is being positioned as a formidable opponent to incumbent Wiper MP Hon. Nzengu Malili.
Mwingi North, located in Kitui County, is traditionally considered a Wiper party stronghold, with the region having consistently supported Kalonzo Musyoka’s party over the years. However, political observers note that Mathuva’s affiliation with the ruling UDA party could sway voters, especially with the potential influence of the national government’s agenda in the region.
Political insiders suggest that Mathuva’s candidacy could pose a serious challenge to the Wiper dominance in Kitui, with many speculating that the UDA’s growing influence in the region may shape the outcome of the next election.
