Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has taken a significant step toward the 2027 presidential race by hiring Canadian lobbying firm Dickens & Madson to bolster his campaign. Reports indicate that Matiang’i has committed Ksh 32 million as a retainer fee for the firm’s services, which include lobbying key agencies in Kenya, the United States, and other international governments.
According to documents filed with the United States Department of Justice under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, Matiang’i has already paid $65,000 as a down payment. The firm, led by controversial former Mossad agent Ari Ben-Menashe, is tasked with enhancing Matiang’i’s international profile and supporting fundraising efforts ahead of the high-stakes election.
Dickens & Madson has gained attention for its involvement in various political campaigns across Africa, most recently aiding Botswana’s President Duma Boko in his successful 2024 election campaign.
Matiang’i’s move to seek international lobbying support signals his ambition to secure a prominent position in Kenya’s political landscape, as he builds momentum for the upcoming presidential contest. The development has sparked discussions about the influence of foreign firms in African elections and the growing trend of international lobbying in shaping political fortunes.
As the 2027 race begins to take shape, all eyes are now on Matiang’i and his campaign strategy, which appears to be geared toward capturing both local and international support.
