Public Engagement Held in Kathemboni for Upcoming Sand Dam Project at Kandokole Stream

A public engagement and awareness meeting was successfully conducted on Monday in Kathemboni, in preparation for the construction of a sand dam at Kandokole stream in Kwa Mang’ala area, Nthongoni village. The event was spearheaded by Hon. Mark Ndingo, the MCA for Yatta Kwa Vonza, through his office staff in collaboration with ADRA Kenya.

The meeting, aimed at mobilizing and sensitizing the local community, saw the participation of key stakeholders, including Nthongoni Chief William Mulwa and a team from ADRA Kenya. The ADRA staff present included David Kitheka, Nathaniel, Evelyn, Kevin, and another David, all of whom contributed to the discussions on the importance and impact of the upcoming sand dam project.

The sand dam, a crucial initiative for the region, is expected to significantly enhance water conservation and supply for the local community, particularly during the dry seasons. Hon. Ndingo emphasized the importance of community involvement in the project, noting that the success of the dam will depend on the collective efforts of all stakeholders.

Chief William Mulwa, in his address, underscored the need for the community to support the project, which is set to provide a long-term solution to the water scarcity issues in the area. He also highlighted the role of local leadership and the community in ensuring the sustainability of such initiatives.

Members of the Kathemboni community expressed their gratitude for the project, acknowledging the potential benefits it would bring to their lives. The meeting concluded with a commitment from both the local leadership and the community to work closely together to ensure the successful implementation of the sand dam.

The sand dam at Kandokole stream is part of a broader effort to improve water accessibility in the region, and its construction is set to begin soon, following the necessary preparatory activities.
