The High Court has declined to hear a petition filed by two Kitui Members of County Assembly (MCAs), Ikanga Ward MCA Cyrus Musyoka and nominated MCA Priscillah Martha Mukami, challenging the nomination of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as Deputy President.
The case was referred to a three-judge bench at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi, where they were handling other impeachment-related cases.
Musyoka and Mukami filed the petition to contest Kindiki’s nomination, arguing that the appointment should be reconsidered. They sought judicial intervention, hoping the court would address their concerns.
Meanwhile, impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua expressed confidence in the Judiciary, stating that he believes the judges will fairly assess his impeachment case. Gachagua, whose case is part of the ongoing legal disputes being heard by the bench, reiterated his faith in the impartiality of the legal process.
This development reflects the heightened political tensions surrounding the transition in leadership and the ongoing judicial review of key executive nominations and appointments. The Judiciary’s decision on these cases is expected to have significant implications for the country’s political landscape.
