On Saturday, 24 August 2024 – The County Assembly successfully concluded the preparation of its committee work plans for the fiscal year 2024/2025. These work plans serve as a roadmap for committee members, guiding them in executing their key roles of legislation, representation, and oversight throughout the year.
Speaking at the event, the Speaker of the County Assembly, Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya, emphasized the importance of these work plans. He noted that they are crucial for structuring committee activities, ensuring that all necessary issues are addressed in a timely manner, and avoiding a haphazard or reactive approach to legislative oversight.
Hon. Christopher Nzilu Nzioka, the Deputy Speaker and Chair of Chairs, echoed these sentiments. Representing Kyangwithya West, Hon. Nzilu stressed that the work plans contribute to a systematic, transparent, and effective legislative process. “Committee work plans also help committees fulfill their roles in a structured manner, ultimately contributing to better governance and oversight,” he stated.
MCA Mark Nding’o, representing Kwa Vonza, called for increased transparency in oversight to fulfill the county assembly’s obligations. His remarks highlighted the need for accountability and openness in the oversight function, ensuring that the Assembly meets its objectives effectively.
The finalized work plans are expected to provide a clear direction for the County Assembly’s committees, enhancing their ability to address issues pertinent to the county’s development and governance.
