In the wake of internal disputes within the Kitui County Assembly, key stakeholders in the Wiper Democratic Movement have called for the party’s top leadership to prioritize broader national ambitions rather than get entangled in local political disagreements. The push comes as some disgruntled Members of County Assembly (MCAs) continue to contest recent leadership changes in the assembly.
The Kitui County Assembly recently voted to reshuffle its leadership, a decision supported by many as necessary for the future of the Wiper Party. However, a faction of MCAs who were ousted from their positions has been pressing the party’s top organ to reverse the changes, claiming they were unfairly removed.
Observers within the party have expressed frustration with the ongoing infighting, noting that these MCAs should focus on serving their electorate and building consensus within the party, rather than vying for personal leadership positions.
“It’s laughable that this same group, which orchestrated a leadership coup in the assembly just months ago, is now crying foul after failing to provide the necessary leadership,” a party insider remarked.
“Instead of dragging Wiper’s leadership into local village politics, they should be working towards making Kalonzo Musyoka the next president in 2027.”Wiper Party loyalists have urged the executive organ to dismiss these complaints and instead concentrate on the larger picture.
They argue that the party should focus on the national goal of positioning Kalonzo Musyoka as the top contender in the upcoming 2027 general elections, and not allow itself to be sidetracked by internal wrangling over county-level leadership positions.
“The Wiper Democratic Movement is not a family affair, and we must remain committed to upholding the democratic values of the party,” added another party official. “Our focus must be on national unity and leadership, not petty squabbles over who holds what position in a county assembly.

As the party prepares for a scheduled meeting to discuss the leadership changes in Kitui, many hope that the executive organ will remain firm in its commitment to broader national objectives. The recent shakeup in Kitui’s assembly leadership has been viewed as a strategic move to strengthen the party’s presence at the grassroots level, ahead of the next elections.
Party members now urge all leaders to unite behind the vision of making Kalonzo Musyoka the next president of Kenya, reinforcing Wiper’s national stature and ensuring it plays a pivotal role in shaping the country’s future.
